How long has the Oscar Wilde Bookshop been in business?
The Oscar Wilde opened its doors for the first time Thanksgiving weekend in 1967 on Mercer Street by Craig Rodwell. In 1973 it moved to its current location at 15 Christopher Street. Read more about us on our HISTORY page.

Where are you located?
We are in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. For detailed directions please visit our DIRECTIONS page where we have subway information along with an area map.
What are your hours?
We are open 11a-7p every day, including Sundays. We are closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

How do I find out what events are happening at the Oscar Wilde?
There are a few ways to find out about our events and book club. The first place to look is our website, the HOME page lists our current events calendar. The second is to sign up for our newsletter, we usually send out a quick reminder a few days before an event.
Do you offer gift certificates?
We do offer gift certificates in the store for any amount you wish. However our certificates are only good for in store purchases, our online retail space does not honor them at this time.
How do I order on your site?
Do you carry used books?
Yes, we have an excellent selection of both used gay and lesbian fiction, along with some used non-fiction.
What is your policy about buying used books?
If you live in the greater New York City area you can drop by your old books and get store credit. We buy back lesbian and gay fiction at 20% off the original retail price for store credit.
Sorry, but we do not buy club books, galleys or remainders.

YES! It is quite thrilling when authors such as Ann Bannon, Bob Smith, Alison Bechdel, Christopher Bram, Karla Jay, Edmund White and others stop by the Oscar to visit.
